Central information and service portal

The website plays an important role in SSB's communication in order to meet the high information and service requirements of users. Timetable information, fare information, current disruptions, but also ticket purchase, subscription management or contact with customer service are frequently accessed areas of the SSB website.

Special emphasis was placed on customer dialog and the opportunity for users to obtain answers to their questions themselves and with assistance. True to the motto "Helping people to help themselves", users can find answers to the most frequently asked questions directly via the customer dialog tool. This reduces the need for service at SSB and customers get their answers quickly and directly. If these cannot be provided automatically, it is easy to get in touch and reach the right person in customer service directly via an inquiry.

Introduction and administration in TYPO3

Equally important is the user-friendliness of the website on all end devices, as it is primarily accessed on mobile devices. In addition, all information must be up-to-date at all times, which is why real-time interfaces to numerous backend systems are necessary.

A logical separation of the editorial system and the productive website ensures that only content that has been checked and approved can be put online. The TYPO3 CMSs are completely separated from each other so that the content on the editorial server can be specially secured.

High availability and scalable
high-performance website

Since there is public interest in the information provided by SSB, the current timetable information and disruption reports, the demands on the availability of the website are particularly high. In addition, disruptions often lead to particularly high demand and thus to unplannable peak loads.

In order to be able to respond to this, a particularly reliable and scalable hosting infrastructure was set up in the Amazon Webservices cloud. All components were designed to be redundant so that failures of individual instances can be absorbed by others. At the same time, instances can be scaled and added to meet higher performance requirements.Corresponding cluster setups of the load balancer, the web server, the file system and the database make changes and maintenance to the infrastructure fail-safe.
