What characterizes an online store?
The primary goal of an online store is, of course, to make sales - so meeting this goal should always be a priority and the sales function should be available around the clock. In order to offer users a similar experience when shopping online as when shopping in-store, you should view the entire process through the online store as an overall experience. Potential buyers are completely dependent on the product or service information provided. Consequently, the quality of the information must be right!
Products and services in the online store can change constantly. It is therefore important that the online store has a system that can be maintained as comprehensively as possible. Regular updates are necessary to ensure that the online store continues to perform well in the future.
How we implement your online store
Projects like an online store start with the basics. These are primarily formed by branding & strategy. The company's brand should be just as recognizable in an online store as it is at all other touchpoints. Accordingly, the basics of the brand are first discussed or even developed if no or only a few basics are already in place.
After branding comes the strategic foundations, which are primarily concerned with the store's goals and the target group. Of course, products are to be sold in a store, but there may be different focal points or conversions that need to be taken into account in the further course of the project. These can also be supported by certain psychological behavioral patterns that are translated into the UX.
The definition of the target group, for example in the form of personas, determines who the online store should appeal to. Only if users feel addressed will they feel comfortable in an online store and make a purchase. The customer journey can then be used to further define how users (should) move around the store. This means that the planned user guidance can be directly taken into account in the subsequent concept and design, which is particularly relevant for the conception and design of the pages.
In the form of a concept, the basic principles developed up to this point are transferred to the resulting online store. Wireframes are used to create a sketch-like skeleton of the store, in which the number and forms of the required modules and teasers are first shown and individual content items are defined. The result is a kind of construction kit with many individual content modules, some of which can later be used in the store in various ways or in a targeted manner.
The concept is followed by the visual design. The most visually appealing part is naturally created in the design. All teasers, modules and other content elements are designed individually and individual pages are designed completely. This creates an impression of the look of the resulting site. The goals defined in the strategy can be supported by a conversion-optimized design so that users are later led to conversion in a more targeted manner.
- Before implementing a new online store, the following topics must be clarified: Initial situation, framework conditions and goals, requirements analysis and system selection. The associated data analysis checks exactly what information is available in the company and its relevance and use in the new system. This includes, for example, product content from product information management, article master data from ERP or image data from media asset management.
- The technical implementation of an online store is usually based on standard store systems, such as Shopware, Magento, Oxid or Spryker. All systems are available as open source solutions, which allows independent development and expansion of online stores. They are also license-free, which makes it possible to implement a store cost-effectively.
- The store systems can be customized to your requirements using standard extensions. Payment providers such as PayPal or Amazon Pay, credit card payments and direct debits via PAYONE, Adyen, Unzer (formerly Heidelpay) or payments on account via Klarna can be connected and offered.
- Complex requirements can be implemented by developing individual plugins, modules or services. This is how we support you in connecting your ERP system and your logistics interfaces. Regardless of whether you use SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 or industry software as an ERP system and implement logistics in your company or via an external service provider. Special requests, e.g. customer-specific prices, B2B customer and contact person accounts, virtual articles, subscription models or multi-market systems can also be fulfilled in this way.
- Special attention should also be paid to good content marketing in the online store. If the content management functions included in the store are not sufficient, we integrate a content management system. We also link both software solutions via interfaces in order to offer the user the most comprehensive overall picture possible. We can also advise you on the technical options here.
- In principle, we always look for a tailor-made solution when developing customer-specific extensions. Of course, we take into account the cost/benefit ratio and are not satisfied with standard extensions if your requirements do not allow it.
